During this week, I have looked at potential projects to work on not only this semester, but for the entire year. I researched multiple organizations and their missions. I have researched the Yeshua Society, the Hope House and Hope Center Indy. I want to collect money for the Yeshua Society. This possible project will be called “change for a change”. We would collect money to purchase art supplies, schoolbooks based on creation, supplies for the classroom (Kleenex, hand sanitizer, wipes, dry erase markers, etc.), winter clothes (coats, mitten, scarves, hats, boots, etc.) or hygiene products (shampoo, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, rag, hair brush, etc.). We could even start a mentoring or tutoring program there. Lilly contacted Mo Wildley at the Yeshua Society. He said that they could use help with the annual Christmas thrift store. This store gives families the opportunity to purchase inexpensive Christmas gifts for their loved ones. We will work with them in the fall and winter. I also researched the Hope House in Greenfield. Their missions is “to provide hope to the community while strengthening individuals and families on their journey to self sufficiency”. They have multiple baskets that groups can assemble. One basket is for the shelter itself. Their list includes a variety of items. Just a few of these items are alarm clocks, batteries, bleach and copy paper. There are also shower baskets. These baskets include hygiene and health items. Check in and check out baskets include both household and cleaning items. I want to get the church I attend, Brookville Road Community Church, involved. I want to have the congregation collect hygiene products to create shower baskets. This project would be in the late winter/early spring. At the Hope Center Indy, you have to be at least 18 years of age to volunteer. I’m not old enough yet, but I can work with them towards the end of this school year. My plan is to help Randy Schwier in the greenhouse on the property. I will help repair and update the greenhouse so that the residents there can learn how to garden. Email to Mo Wildley Example shower basket for the Hope House
